It's not Karate . . . It's Life

"If you can change the way you see the world, the world will be different. This is a lot easier than changing the world." - O'Sensei Richard Kim

White Tiger High River

We believe in whole body wellness, and our classes reflect this. Our goal is to provide self-defense training and physical conditioning in a focused and disciplined environment, while ensuring our training strategy is applicable to the age group we are training.

Our Style Gōjū-ryū 剛柔流, (Japanese for "hard-soft style") is one of the main traditional Okinawan styles of karate, featuring a combination of hard and soft techniques. Go which means hard, refers to closed hand techniques such as punching and kicks and linear movements; Ju which means soft refers to circular techniques for blocking and controlling the opponent, including locks, grappling, takedowns and throws.

Major emphasis is given to breathing correctly with deep breathing from the stomach (hara). Goju-Ryu combines hard striking attacks with softer open hand circular techniques.

Our Classes

Most classes are split by age (5-7, 8-14, Adult), and Rank (Beginner, Yellow/Orange, Green/Blue, Brown/Adv)

As parents, we have high hopes and aspirations for our children. Yet, we also have concerns, maybe even fears, about the sort of challenges and temptations our children face while pursuing their goals and maximum potential. At White Tiger Martial Arts, our programs are designed to train our students to set healthy, appropriate, and productive goals. Our students are properly trained to succeed in school, at home and in extracurricular activities. We provide families with more than just the valuable and timeless lessons inherent to martial arts training. We achieve results by focusing on three key areas: personal safety, character education, and health.

Our 8-14 class is structued to be more phsically demanding then our 5-7 class while still providing the appropriate amount of physical conditioning, focuse, and discipline. The program that we offer is a traditional Japanese Goju Ryu Karate-do curriculum which will cover topics such as kihon (basic movements), kata (forms), bunkai (application of forms), goshin kumite (self defense), and kumite (sparring).

At White Tiger Martial Arts we specialize in Bo, Kama, Sai, Baston, Tonfa Kata and movements. From time to time we will introduce other training weapons such as knife and gun for self defense training. Senior students can also choose to specialize in a particular weapon as they progress through their belts and build their expertise.

Iaidō (居合道), abbreviated with iai (居合),is a Japanese martial art that emphasizes being aware and capable of quickly drawing the sword and responding to a sudden attack.

Iaido is associated with the smooth, controlled movements of drawing the sword from its scabbard (or saya), striking or cutting an opponent, removing blood from the blade, and then replacing the sword in the scabbard.
